kathy Taft : Greenville Kathy Taft, who was badly beaten Saturday in the home of Raleigh, died peacefully at 11:58 am on Tuesday and assured her priest.
Rev. Bob Hudak of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church said he last rites of the joint family communion service in the private sector in Taft in the hospital room.
“I was in bed with her daughters and sons and brothers and sisters,” he said. “She died peacefully.”
Taft, 62, a member of the Council of State for Education, was the discovery of the attack Saturday morning in a house owned by Lord Raleigh Raleigh lawyer John M.. Geil. News & Observer of Raleigh said Geil was out of state when the attack occurred.
Friends said that Taft had been staying at his home after minor surgery in the leg. Her sister was living with her and discovered Taft.
Raleigh police on Monday continued to say that the investigation did not specify whether the attack was an act of random. There are no updates were made Tuesday.
Detective investigating the case and said that anyone with information or who may be seen or heard anything unusual in or near a cluster 2700 of Cartier Drive between Friday night and Saturday morning can call CrimeStoppers at Rally (919) 834 for help.
State leaders and local officials mourned the loss of Taft
“I have known Kathy Taft was also a close friend for more than 25 years,” said Beverly Perdue, governor of the state. “And showed me kindness, a woman, a colleague from down East to work on bringing about change, something I will never forget. A love of education and find every opportunity to better serve North Carolina children clearly make this country a better place to live and raise a family, do.” “For this, we all owe a debt of gratitude Kathy. We will miss her very much.”
The educational community has lost a friend, House County Schools’ superintendent Beverly Reep said.
“Kathy has remained steadfastly loyal in its commitment to improving educational opportunities for students in the house and in the province throughout the country,” said Reep.
“Said they were not afraid to address difficult issues and they defied all those who worked to maintain its interest in a clear focus on what is best for children”, she said. “Words can not express how much it will miss all of us in society and education.”
The case has been diminished by the death of Taft, said the State Board of Education President Bill Harrison.
“Mrs. Taft was an active member of the Council of State for Education for 15 years and a strong supporter of the 1.5 million students in public schools in our state,” said Harrison.
“Mrs. Taft service of the Council and the citizens of North Carolina and included many significant achievements, such as the state in the prototype to hold schools accountable, and the development of charter schools and the efforts being made to ensure that our state and prepare students for the 21st century.”Hudak said Taft family had been awake since she was in the hospital.”The depth of compassionate care and support for each other was truly inspirational and a tribute to a true spirit of Kathy, and her love of God and caring for others,” he said. “It was a privilege for me and her pastor to be with her family and friends at this time is precious and sacred.”
